The Versailles Duo

In 1973, the U.S. took over in the Battle of Versailles-a historic fashion show held in November at the Palace of Versailles to raise money for its restoration. This show pitted five American designers against five French couturiers in a competition that ultimately helped elevate American fashion to a powerhouse all over the world. The show featured a face-off between American ready-to-wear designers (Bill Blass, Stephen Burrows, Oscar de la Renta, Halston, and Anne Klein) and French couturiers (Marc Bohan for Christian Dior, Pierre Cardin, Hubert de Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, and Emanuel Ungaro. The American designers, considered underdogs, won over the audience with their modern, sleek designs and the energy of their models. We commemorate that victory with our Versailles duo offer which includes two tees-our classic 1973 tee and a different signature tee we’ll list here each month. The bourgeois behavior tee is the additional tee for this month.
